Irene Madrid is a Spanish freelance dancer, choreographer and dance educator based in Oslo. She graduated from the Royal Dance Conservatory Mariemma in Madrid and began her professional career working with choreographer Teresa Nieto.

Since 2016, she has collaborated with internationally renowned choreographers and directors including Wim Vandekeybus, Olivier Py, Christof Loy, Robert Carsen, Andreas Homoki, Francisco Córdova, Grzegorz Bral, Jetske Mijnssen and John Yost, among others.

Her performing career includes productions at major European opera houses and theatres such as Opéra National and Opera Comique de Paris, Gran Teatre del Liceu, La Monnaie/De Munt, Dutch National Opera & Ballet, Bregenzer Festspiele, Semperoper Dresden, ReisOpera, Palau de Les Arts, Teatro Real, Oper Frankfurt, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, Théâtre du Capitole, Opera Royal Wallonië Liege and The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet.

Beyond performance, Irene has developed an extensive career in choreographic direction and dance leadership, working as an Assistant Choreographer on international opera productions with directors including Damiano Michieletto and Vincent Huguet, at Opéra National de Paris, Palau de Les Arts and Gran Teatre del Liceu. She has also worked as Dance Captain for productions including La Traviata at Bregenzer Festspiele.

She continues to collaborate with contemporary dance companies including Song of the Goat Theatre and Physical Momentum Company, where she is currently part of the productions Source and Be Careful What You Wish For.

Irene currently teaches as Faculty at the Norwegian Academy of the Arts (KHiO) within the Bachelor’s Programmes in Contemporary Dance and Jazz Dance, as well as at Bårdar – Akademiet for Musikk & Scenekunst AS, DanseFOT and PRODA among others.

She combines her professional experience in dance with a strong focus on physical health and conditioning and is a certified Personal Trainer through ISAF – Institute of Health Sciences and Physical Activity.
